Intercom/Tally
The 25 pin intercom and tally connection allows you to connect to 3rd party intercom and tally systems.
The Blackmagic Camera Fiber Converter and Blackmagic Studio Fiber Converter allow you to remote power and send all video, audio, talkback, and tally connections to the camera using a single SMPTE fiber optic cable. This means you can fully power and connect video and audio to cameras up to 2 km away from a studio! The Blackmagic Camera Fiber Converter also adds familiar broadcast studio camera controls to the rear of the camera, plus there are extra connections for audio and industry standard talkback headsets. Plus the converters include 12G-SDI so work with all HD and Ultra HD formats up to 2160p60! Now it’s easy to transform URSA Broadcast G2 into a true broadcast studio camera!
Find ResellerIf you’re working in theaters, music venues or sports stadiums, then you often need to place cameras far away from the control room or broadcast truck. While SDI connections are more common, SDI cable lengths are very limited. Plus, often there is no power where the cameras need to be placed. SMPTE fiber solves this problem because it contains all video, audio, camera control and tally connections via a single cable, but more importantly, it also fully powers the camera and all its accessories. This means you can place the camera up to 2 km away, and power and control it from the studio end. Best of all, SMPTE fiber is a global broadcast industry standard so the cables are readily available.
Blackmagic fiber converters work with standard SMPTE 311M hybrid electrical and fiber optic cables with SMPTE 304M connectors on each end. These cables feature a 2 way fiber pair, data pair and power pair, along with a central strength member for the durability needed for continuous use. Once plugged in, the Blackmagic Studio Fiber Converter automatically performs safety checks then powers on, sending an industry standard 200 volts down the cable to the camera. Both the studio and camera converters constantly monitor if the cable is operating within safe parameters to ensure maximum safety. If a damaged cable is detected, the power is instantly shut down to eliminate any danger.
Studio cameras are typically operated from the rear of the camera, but broadcast cameras usually have controls on the side of the camera! To solve this problem, the Blackmagic Camera Fiber Converter also adds a wide range of controls and features to the rear of the camera, transforming it into a professional studio camera. You get 2 separate broadcast standard 5 pin talkback connections, 3 return video feeds, 2 extra audio inputs, connections for PTZ and trackers, plus additional DC and D-tap outputs for powering accessories. With all these extra controls added to the rear of URSA Broadcast G2, you can now operate the camera in exactly the same way as a traditional studio camera!
The Blackmagic Camera Fiber Converter and the Blackmagic Studio Fiber Converter use IP video because the SMPTE fiber connection is an open standard 10G Ethernet link. That means all of your video and return feeds are IP video based using high end, lossless broadcast quality 10-bit video encoding and decoding. All other connections such as talkback, tally, camera control and lens control are also converted to low latency IP so you get incredibly reliable performance and high quality. Using IP video means the Blackmagic fiber converters are future proof and ready for customization using high speed Ethernet infrastructure in the future!
The Blackmagic Camera Fiber Converter is easy to install as it simply attaches to the back of your URSA Broadcast in place of the battery plate. Then you connect the 12G‑SDI connections between the converter and the camera. The converter uses the SDI tally and control protocols, and it uses SDI channels for talkback. The single unit takes care of the conversions of video and audio, plus it adds the rear camera controls. These controls include buttons for the return feeds, dual intercom controls with the ability to mix in program audio, record, focus and iris controls, headset connectors, audio and more. The converter is also a good place to attach the Blackmagic URSA Studio Viewfinder G2.
The Blackmagic Studio Fiber Converter is used at the control room end of the SMPTE fiber cable and it handles converting between the SMPTE fiber and SDI video and audio connections. Plus the studio converter has a built in high capacity power supply to drive the SMPTE fiber cable with enough power to the camera and its accessories. There's even a dedicated talkback connector so you can connect to industry standard talkback systems. The large 5 inch LCD screen on the front panel makes it very easy to monitor the camera feed. The SMPTE fiber connector is on the front panel, so the converter can be mounted on the back of a rack, so you don't need an expensive SMPTE fiber patch panel.
The Blackmagic Camera Fiber Converter and Blackmagic Studio Fiber Converter provide 2 dual channel digital talkback connections that are compatible with professional 5 pin XLR talkback headsets. The camera converter even has controls for mixing in program return audio with your talkback headset. The talkback intercoms can be used for both production and engineering. Blackmagic Camera Fiber Converter also includes a standard 10 pin connection for tracker talkback, which is perfect when both headset connections are in use and you need to feed an extra talkback connection for a crane operator.
The 25 pin intercom and tally connection allows you to connect to 3rd party intercom and tally systems.
4 XLR audio outputs include the 2 channels from the camera plus the extra 2 audio channels from the Blackmagic Camera Fiber Converter.
The reference input will send the video reference up to the camera so it can lock to your system, even when the SMPTE fiber cable length changes.
This is the main connection to the camera and is where the SMPTE fiber connects. This includes pairs for power and backup talkback and the optic fiber.
Connect an IEC power cable to the power input on the rear panel to provide power.
The 9 pin D-Sub connector allows you to connect PTZ controllers via the SMPTE fiber cable to the camera for PTZ heads via the Visca protocol.
The 12G-SDI main camera feed supports HD and Ultra HD formats up to 2160p60 and connects to your switcher, ISO recorder or broadcast monitors.
The USB‑C port allows you to connect a Mac or Windows computer so you can run the utility to update the converter software.
The USB‑C port allows you to connect a Mac or Windows computer so you can run the utility to update the converter software.
Two industry standard 5 pin XLR connectors allow you to plug in two talkback headsets, which you can use for production or engineering talkback.
This is the main SMPTE fiber connection to the camera which uses a pivoting mount and it includes power and all video, control and audio signals.
The Molex connector is the main power connector and is designed to connect to the camera via the connector normally locked under the battery plate.
The D-Tap connector allows accessories to be powered from the camera and it includes +12V to power any device that supports up to +11.9V to 14V DC at 2 amps.
The 12G-SDI connections on the converter are the main interface to the camera and include all video and audio, as well as camera control and tally.
The 10 pin Hirose connector has an additional talkback output, plus red and green tally, which is useful when mounting URSA Broadcast on a crane.
While the camera already has two XLR audio inputs, these two additional audio inputs allow you to embed audio into SDI channels 3 and 4.
The 3 HD-SDI outputs are sourced from the studio converter program return inputs.
The 9 pin PTZ connector controls motorized tripod heads and it’s connected via the SMPTE fiber cable to the PTZ connector on the studio converter.
The Blackmagic Camera Fiber Converter features an extremely durable all metal design that perfectly matches URSA Broadcast G2. It’s built to withstand the harsh demands of outdoor field production and 24/7 operation. The Blackmagic Camera Fiber Converter features standard television industry connections with dust caps, along with an integrated mount plate on top for adding a studio viewfinder.
