“We are asked frequently, why shoot on film. To be honest, when we work on digital productions we never feel they had the same magic as film. What you see on the monitor, is what you get, which is fine; but every time we’ve shot on film we get the footage back and it looks exceptionally better than it did in reality. Film has a way of binding everything together, glossing over imperfections and elevating the imagery. What’s truly exceptional about the journey of ‘Moon Garden’ is that our scan became what was a Digital Intermediate, that we then used to print back out to 35mm film for release in theaters. We couldn’t afford rushes or dailies; we scanned in batches - so it required a lot of faith waiting to get the footage back. Thankfully, the Cintel scans in real-time, so our first time seeing the footage was at regular speed playback. And Cintel is designed to protect the negative from wear and tear with soft rubber rollers and a fluid gate. So we could absolutely trust Cintel with our Master negative to keep it pristine!”
